About the Course
Itinerary for climbing Mount Rinjani Lombok from Sembalun:
Arrival Day: We will come to pick you up in an air-conditioned car at your arrival point or hotel on the island of Lombok then transfer to Senaru, meet us and check in at the hotel provided in Senaru. If you have enough time, we will guide you to walk the waterfall and return to the hotel.
Day 1 Climbing Mount Rinjani: After breakfast at your hotel, we will take you to Sembalun and start the journey to register at the Rinjani Information Center in Sembalun (1,156 m) before starting the journey. The trail initially passes through undulating open grasslands as it climbs the mountain. We stopped at Post 1 and Post 2, stopping for a moment to rest and have a snack. At Post 3 (1,800 m) we stopped for a longer break for lunch. After lunch, we began the steep climb to the crater rim. We spent the night at Sembalun Crater (2,639 m) with stunning views of the sunset, Segara Anak Lake, the peak of Mount Rinjani and northern Lombok.
Day 2 Climbing Mount Rinjani: We woke up at 3 am to have a light breakfast before starting the challenging three hour trek to the peak (3,726 m). We arrived just in time for sunrise, the best time to enjoy the spectacular views. Returning to our campsite on the edge of the crater, we stopped for a hot breakfast and rest before continuing our descent into the crater. We stopped for lunch on the shore of Lake Segara Anak (2,000 m) and set up camp. Afternoons can be spent swimming in the hot springs, fishing, exploring the lakeside or simply relaxing.
Day 3 Climbing to Mount Rinjani: After breakfast we continued our journey around the edge of Lake Segara Anak before starting our climb out of the crater. The trail is steep and rocky and passes through dense forest. At Senaru Crater (2,641 m) we stopped for lunch and rest. The crater rim offers views across the lake back to the summit and a good vantage point of Gunung Baru, a small volcanic cone within the crater of Mount Rinjani. Mount Agung in Bali and the Gili Islands can also be seen from here. We can camp here for the night, or if the wind is cold and we're still feeling energetic, we can continue down the mountain and spend the night at a more sheltered campsite in the forest.
Day 4 Climbing Mount Rinjani: After breakfast we continued our journey down the mountain, taking advantage of the rest spots Post 3, Post 2 and Post 1 and stopping for a longer break for lunch along the way. As we descended the mountain, the forest became denser and lush. We arrive in Senaru (601 m) around 1 pm, from there you will be taken to your next destination.
